The Baton Rouge Holiday Inn Lunch Buffet
The bartender bought me a
Coca Cola
and she said haven’t seen you around here before
I said girl I saw you working alone and I was just wondering
if the Baton Rouge Holiday Inn lunch buffet is worth springing for
She said I don't know this salad's all I ever get
they've been serving it up since I been here bartending
It's a hot meal and they only call the paramedics once a month
and we get truckers tourists stale troopers
and a lot of Texas businessmen
Chorus
She said I started working
here sometime late last year
but I've got shot glasses to clean and they break lunch down at 1:15 so
you better hurry on your way you don't wanna miss the etouffe'
I say I'd rather sit and talk to you but hey if you don't want me to
There's a photograph of a
pretty little girl on the tip jar by the register
She's a giggling helicopter blade whirling round and round her mom
her mom says I gotta serve those guys but just so you don't blow a fuse wondering
my baby's in school right down the block and her daddy he is long gone
I watch a soap opera with the sound down while I wait for her to come back
and we talk in bits and pieces in between the lunch time drinking crew
about kindergarten and how I sell books from Miami to Wichita
she says I don't suppose you live around here
Girl I guess I am just passing through
Chorus
The bartender bought me a
Coca Cola
and she said haven't seen you around here before
I said girl I saw you working alone and I was just wondering
it the Baton Rouge Holiday Inn lunch buffet is worth springing for
It's funny how much more business I do in Baton Rouge these days
after quitting time and day care I get my girls and we go out and play
some time ago at the state fair a little walking ball of cotton candy said
if you love my momma so much how come you always drive away now I say
I started working here sometime late last year the road is not the place to
be
when you miss your wife and your family
