Play For Me

It’s been a long and lonesome road
too far from home and the loves of my life
I miss my Angie my daughter my baby
and I miss Rosalinda my beautiful wife
But I play guitar in a traveling band
and Rosie if I put this guitar down
there's nothing good about goodbye kisses I know
but who am I gonna play for in our little town
She says

Chorus

Play for me
in cold Decembers by the fire
on summer nights in the back yard
under the apple tree
I always love to hear you play
so play for me

Now Angie's 14 and I work across town
I gave up the road when she was 4
She picks up my dusty guitar and says
Dad why don't you play
you don't play much anymore
I strum a few chords and I pass it on to her
and I say honey this old guitar is yours to keep
you were growing up so fast I was missing you so much
but she says Dad I miss the way you used to sing me to sleep
and she says

Chorus

There's a blur in the kitchen and a screen door slammin'
there goes a girl and her guitar
Angie's 17 now she's writing songs and running out
she plays at the club and the coffee bar
she says I got a song that surely does belong
on the juke box and the laptops and the MTV
but nobody’s listening
baby they don’t know what they’re missing
and I love to hear you play so baby play for me ...

Chorus
